Welcome
Emory University is significantly upgrading our Belonging and Community Justice identity spaces to further enhance support for students’ education, empowerment, sense of purpose and belonging, and wellness – and to create a more just and equitable campus where all students thrive.
Emory students connected with these spaces were engaged in over 40 feedback sessions throughout the planning of this multi-million-dollar project.
Alumni Memorial University Center Renovated spaces
Four existing identity spaces currently located in the Alumni Memorial University Center (AMUC) were renovated in 2021: Center for Women, Centro Latinx, Emory Black Student Union (EBSU), and Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Life. In addition, the Asian Student Center (ASC) was created to serve Asian Pacific Islander Desi/American (AIPD/A) students.
New spaces in Cox Hall
Meanwhile, five entirely new identity spaces are being constructed on the third floor of Cox Hall. All five of the identity groups described above will relocate to that facility, where each will have their own space while sharing common areas. The target date for completing the full Cox Hall buildout is fall 2023.
Message from the President
Identity spaces at Emory help empower our students to engage and thrive by nurturing in them a sense of community that affirms and uplifts student voices.
These vibrant places foster a sense of belonging that enables students to connect in authentic and intentional ways, share their ideas and personal challenges—and be understood.
After speaking with student leaders, community members, and— especially—Dean Gelaye during my earliest days at Emory, as well as visiting the current student identity spaces, I recognized the need to make substantial improvements and additions.
The revitalization and reimagining of these spaces will build on the ideas and work of generations of Emory students, faculty, and staff members who have envisioned a united, welcoming, and inclusive university.
Our goal is to improve the Emory experience and live up to our shared values—creating a campus community that is supportive, inspiring, and life-changing for all who learn and discover here.

RENOVATED IDENTITY SPACES UNVEILED ON EMORY’S ATLANTA CAMPUS
